27. Describe the attitude of the client-centered therapist (congruence, empathy, and unconditional positive regard).
The attitude of the client is to express what they feel and lead the conversation. The client takes the therapeutic session more as a venting session where the therapist does not put their input in, but asks the patient questions on how they feel about a certain situation.
Unconditional Positive Regard: the therapist is showing complete acceptance and support of what their client is telling them. The therapist does not judge their client, but yet supports their client no matter what the client is facing or experiencing.
Empathy: a therapist reflects by acting as a mirror, by thoughts and feelings. The reason therapists do this is so the client gains a clearer understanding of their own thoughts, perceptions, and emotions.
Congruence: the therapist is real, or genuine, and open with their clients. The client does not show facial expressions to their clients for good or bad, it is all one emotion.
