The components of instrumental conditioning are positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, positive punishment, and negative punishment. Positive reinforces are good or happy events or outcomes that are presented after the behavior. Negative reinforces is what happens after the event or outcome that is not a happy reaction. Positive punishment involves the presentation of an unhappy event or outcome in order to weaken the response that it follows. Negative punishment occurs when an happy event or outcome is removed after the behavior occurs.
