16. Describe the application of the principles of classical conditioning to the therapeutic situation (systematic desensitization and aversive counter conditioning).
The basic principles of classical conditioning can be applied in the therapeutic situation.
Systematic desensitization- type of exposure therapy that associates a pleasant relaxed state with gradually increasing anxiety-triggering stimuli. Normally used to treat phobias.
Aversive counter conditioning- type of counter conditioning that associates and unpleasant state with an unwanted behavior. So like nausea and drinking alcohol.
